Return, O Backsliding Children - Sofia Conti

Sofia graduated from Edinburgh College Photography back in 2020 honing her skills as a documentary photographer. Her passion for documentary study did not end there, she enrolled in the MA programme at Falmouth continuing her studies and seeking out new stories.

Nearing completion of the MA, Sofia is about to launch her solo exhibition 'Return, O Backsliding Children' at Garthamlock and Craigend Parish Church, 46 Porchester Street, Glasgow, G33 5DB, on Thursday 21st July (1030am - 7pm).

"'Return, O Backsliding Children' is my MA Photography degree Final Major Project that explores the cause and effect of crime in Greater Glasgow. The collaborative body of work is about raising awareness on issues closely connected to crime. This has only been possible thanks to the willing participants sharing their life experiences".

Sofia will be at the exhibition on the 21st to discuss the project and the themes raised.

This year has been very productive, as well as completing her MA Final Major Project she has just won second place in the Scottish BIPP Reportage and Photojournalism Awards 2022, one of the six finalists exhibited at Photo North Festival, and highly commended for her collaborative multimedia based project, 'Pain is Necessary Suffering is Optional' by the Belfast Photo Festival. A project which raises awareness on addiction and recovery.

Sofia has also been published in the The Guardian, I'm sure we will see more of her work in the future, watch this space.

Well done and congratulations on your achievements.
