New work by Edinburgh based photographer Jannica Honey entitled 'When The Blackbird Sings' opens at the Arusha Gallery on 1st March.
Following the opening night there will be two other events:
When the Blackbird Sings: Artist Talk and Panel Discussion Artist Jannica Honey, 'Body Positive' advocate Danni Gordon, Sunday Herald journalist Vicky Allan and journalist and columnist Vonny Leclerc will lead a panel discussion about the representation and censorship of the female body in modern society. Saturday 3 March, 12-14.45pm. £4. When the Blackbird Sings: International Women's Day To celebrate International Women’s Day, come listen to beautiful tales and wondrous poems shared by some of Scotland’s most creative writers. Thursday 8 March, 6.30-9pm. £10.50.
Swedish born Jannica Honey moved to Edinburgh to study photography and digital imaging after completing a BA in Humanities (anthropology and criminology) at Stockholm University in 1998.
A significant proportion of her recent work has focused on musicians (subjects include: The Killers, Emma Pollock, Frightened Rabbit, Kathyrn Joseph, Dougie MacLean, The Horrors, Young Fathers) with her photographs appearing in The Guardian, LA Times, Aftenposten, Svenska Dagbladet, The Scotsman, the Sunday Herald, Vogue, Dazed and Confused, Tank, Aesthetica Magazine, and Gaffa. Moreover, her sensitive portrayal has led to her being commissioned to photograph a wide range of events ranging from feminist conferences to the Anglo-Swedish society receptions at the House of Commons and Buckingham Palace. Her subjects have included Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, opposition leaders Kezia Dugdale and Ruth Davidson, as well as the Duke Of Edinburgh.
